Yes, that seems to be how this server works. And my goal is indeed to
keep the server username away from the screen of the recipient.

I have the same server configured on my desktop computer, and it works
there. The only difference I've found so far seems to be that the
envelope-from is set in the configuration. If I remove it, I am also
unable to send some messages on the desktop.
