I have been wondering about this myself. With the competition heating up with 
newer apps coming into the play store I really hope the developers are not 
losing interest in this amazing open source client . I have been a lover and 
user of k9 since the early days and would be extremely disappointed to see it 
enter decline and be marginalised/diminished.for users it may be interesting to 
note that most new clients are cloud based (often storing or passing user data 
through their own servers) thus being fundamentally insecure. K9 alongside few 
other older clients let's the user talk to the server directly. Hope @cketti 
and  other developers will respond about the future of this app that is an 
integral part of the lives of so many android users. Thank you.
