Mail will stay in an account's K-9 outbox when it can't be delivered
to your configured outgoing mail server for some reason. If this is
only happening with some messages on an account, common causes
include:
- mal-formed recipient address -- e.g., incomplete hostname,
illegal characters in address, etc.
- message too large -- outgoing mail server may have message
size limits, so if you have attachments on the message you
may have exceeded that limit
- message blocked by outgoing mail server for some other
reason
You should get a message in your notification panel that gives a bit
more detail that should help you understand/resolve the issue.
The K-9 mailbox counts (as is common with many mail clients) show
the "new", not "total", message count. So, if you open a message in
your outbox it will no longer be included in the outbox message
count.
