Hello I am the owner of Air Mail. Though it no longer resembles K9 in appearance and bears little resemblance today in its code its foundation is in fact based on K9.
I would like to give back to the K9 project if anyone is interested and in particular was thinking of our coding for Google Oauth sign-in which K9 is sadly missing and Im guessing creates some problems for new users. It no doubt will require some tweaking to incorporate this into K9 but the bulk of the work is done for you here.
