If the emails still exist on the server it will be fine. If they don't you will 
lose them. 

As for the limits they aren't automatically applied. They are used when 
updating a folder. So once you change the limit you should refresh the folder 
manually to actually get the space back. 

Ideally we probably should provide an enhancement to make it easier to work out 
where space is being used. I mentioned this on the ticket cketti linked to with 
a summary of what we discussed. It probably wants it's own issue though
I'm not sure how hard it is - it may be quite easy if we store the message 
sizes in a sensible way.
