One option is to generate an app-specific password for K-9 for each Gmail account.

We have an open issue to support 2FA-type authentication.

Personally I think it's unfair of Google to call it 'modern security standards' as they are literally the only people who use the protocol because they wrote it and everyone else is forced to implement it just for Gmail.

I have a Gmail account myself which I don't use much so I never added it to K-9. I would like to get round to working on it at some point...

In terms of errors for non 2FA accounts it's difficult to know without more details - it's possible the failures for the 2FA account triggered something in Google for the device IP or something.

Best regards,

Philip Whitehouse

Was out for the first time since receiving my Project Fi Nexus 5x
yesterday, when K9 tried to sync all of my accounts that don't use
2-factor authentication gave me security alerts and would not sync
mail.  I was able to log into one of them on the web and see that an
"Unknown Device" with a T-Mobile IP (Fi uses T-Mobile towers) was
blocked from accessing the account at 1:12pm.  Same for all the other
non-secured accounts.

At first I thought I was hacked, but after talking with Google Support
I tried replicating the issue this evening at home on mobile data,
trying to log into one of my accounts without 2FA gave me an email
saying the following:

Someone just tried to sign in to your Google Account from an app that
doesn't meet modern security standards.

Strangley, no information on the device was given, and it doesn't
appear in my Google account page under devices (not even as an
"Unknown Device").  No IP info either.  Possibly it's being lumped
in with the earlier login, but that one still says "1:12pm" and I'm
pretty sure I have a different IP now.  Would appreciate any help
troubleshooting this, I hate the stock Gmail app because it won't open
to the unified inbox.  I also am sure I have access for less secure
apps enabled in my account settings.
