Just found the problem! :)

The problem seems to be the selection of the APN.
There are several APNs to select from. I selected the correct one. But
within the log I saw the wrong APN. I was not able to select the correct
one. So I deleted all but the correct one. Now it works fine.
The wrong one was the one for WAP. WAP uses a Proxy. This is why the hosts
file was not used. And this is why some of the connections did not work.
With correct APN all is fine.
So the main problem is that the selection of the APN seems not to work.
Workaround is to delete all APNs but the correct one.
Maybe this can be fixed within on of the upcomming version.

Hopefully this help some others.
I use Vodafone network (Germany). Provider is 1und1. So maybe it's related
to that as well. With stock the correct APN was selected automatically.

Cheers
Timo
