For someone who wants to be able to actually read his mail, but who can
build from source and revert if necessary, is this stable enough to
recommend for installation for testing?

Or should I install this on a tablet where if I can't read mail, that's
not a big deal, and leave the release on my phone, where it matters?

In other words, are you and other developers running the alpha version,
or something even less stable, and basically doing ok reading mail on a
day-to-day basis?
