Current Android app development guidelines discourage exit buttons. The OS 
likes to manage background task killing itself.

I'm not sure I understand your "keep my emails hidden away" statement. If you 
don't want the notifications, you can disable those and K-9 will not display 
anything until you launch it. If you don't want background polling, you can 
disable automatic polling and K-9 won't do anything in the background.
