I had the same problem. also Android / Samsung.

First thing make sure you have the K-9 mail and the OpenKeychain for crypto
(no doubt you already have that)

Then you want to read this:

1) https://www.lifewire.com/what-are-the-gmail-pop3-settings-1170853

Check out all the steps

Then read this as well (carefully look at all steps):

2)
https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-access-a-gmail-account-with-any-email-client-via-pop-4103715

Finally, review this:

3) https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7104828

After you've changed those settings (in gmail webmail settings as well as
any in the K-9 app) it should work. I say "should" because when I made the
changes it still took a few tries at authenticating and syncing for the
incoming before it actually did work, but it did.

Then I had to fiddle with settings to get it to download the most recents
first instead of it downloading the oldest possible emails... another task,
but at least at that point it was working.

Hope this helps.
