this is a google issue not a k9 issue. What is happening is that gmail are 
trying to persuade users to use their own app, or webmail, as otherwise 
they don't get to see the ads.

This is not a k9 issue, but a gmail issue. They want you to use their apps 
and webmail so that you read their ads.
You need to change your gmail setting to "use less secure apps" or some 
such, in your google settings. Then k9 will work fine.
