Vodafone Italia used to block IMAP connections to yahoo as they set up the
connection in a slightly nonstandard way (I think they required to send a
specific line of text before negotiating the encryption).
Might be something like that: I've set up free yahoo accounts for k9 and
thunderbird successfully otherwise (after manually enabling IMAP in the
yahoo settings, naturally).
