Assuming you mean an Edimax Broadband Router BR6101, its manual is available as a PDF at

In skimming through it, it appears that you can implement the instructions at the "gotomyvnc" URL Scott already provided (in the quoted message below) through the "Virtual Server" capability of this router. It is described on page 46 of the manual.

If I have guessed wrong about the exact model number of your friend's "Edimax", please post a followup with more specific identification of its make and model.
