I'd like to get Jenkins bot to send build messages to IRC [1]. This requires registering the channel to set the mode that allows messages to the channel from people who have not joined. Freenode, has a process for registering channel that is somewhat complicated [2] and would require everyone currently in the channel to leave so someone could get ops again. Otherwise we have to go through the extra long group registration process that involves setting up real world contact information.
Alternatively, if we change the channel to something with apache in the name the nice folks in #asfinfra can take care of our channel and talking to Freenode for us. Any objections to moving from #kafka to #apache-kafka? [1] Example: <apache-jenkins> Project Kafka-trunk build #20: ABORTED in 20 min: https://builds.apache.org/job/Kafka-trunk/20/ [2] http://blog.freenode.net/2008/04/registering-a-channel-on-freenode/
