ತೀರ್ಥ ಎಂದರೆ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಯಾಗ, ಪುಣ್ಯಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ, ಗುರು, ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಜಲ, ಮುಂತಾದ ಅನೇಕ ಅರ್ಥಗಳಿವೆ. ತೀರ್ಥರೂಪ ಎಂದರೆ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠರಾದ ಎನ್ನುವ ಅರ್ಥ ಇದೆ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ತೀರ್ಥರೂಪ ಪದವನ್ನು ಹಿರಿಯರಾದವರಿಗೆ ಬಳಸಬಹುದು. ಹಾಗೇ ಮಾತೃ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಜನನಿ, ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮೀ, ಮಾಹೇಶ್ವರೀ, ಕೌಮಾರೀ, ವೈಷ್ಣವಿ, ವಾರಾಹೀ, ಇಂದ್ರಾಣೀ, ಚಾಮುಂಡೀ, ಭೂಮೀ, ಗೋವು, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ಮುಂತಾದ ಅರ್ಥಗಳಿವೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿರಿಯರಾದವರಿಗೆ ಮಾತೃಶ್ರೀ ಸಮಾನರಾದ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣತೆ ಇದೆ. ಶ್ರೀಯುತ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿ ಶ್ರೀನಿವಾಸ ಗೋಪಾಲಾಚಾರ್ಯ ಅವರ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ - ಕನ್ನಡ ಶಬ್ದಕೋಶವನ್ನು ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಿ.
