UBS, was dragged down & humiliated in front of US Senate subcommittee few months back (see earlier email, YOU & US - UBS) on their criminal misdemeanours of squirreling away US tax money. It was alleged that UBS was helping wealthy clients in avoiding tax by devising fraudulent sham companies and hide wealth. Even though UBS, has agreed to pay $780 million to U.S. authorities to settle criminal charges that it assisted clients in abetting tax evasion, the bad news keeps on coming. Another UBS client has pleaded guilty to filing a false tax return, by admitting that he concealed more than $8 million in Swiss bank accounts opened in the name of a Hong Kong corporation. Business Week reported, "On July 28, Jeffrey Chernick - a wealthy UBS client from Stanfordville, New York - pleaded guilty to charges of filing a false tax return. Chernick also accepted responsibility for concealing more than $8 million in Swiss bank accounts ..."
