A major concern in product innovation in Islamic finance is the Shari’ah
authenticity.
*The workshop will critically analyse the concept of genuine innovation,
within the context of the existing model of reverse engineering where
conventional products are restructured to make them Shari’ah-compliant
and to compare this to a more Shari'ah-based alternative where the
product structure has its genesis in the ethics and fair play envisioned
by the Shari'ah principles*
On the final day the workshop will examine a range of genuinely
innovative products and product features that are presently either used
rarely or not at all in the industry, and where the adoption of such
products may be argued to serve the needs of Islamic finance industry
clients while remaining intrinsically in line with the spirit of the
Shari’ah principles.
