Indonesia's Islamic Finance to more than double in 5 years - study Thomson Reuters, Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), a member of the Islamic Development Bank Group, and the General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI), and in partnership with CIMB Islamic Bank, released today the Indonesia Islamic Finance Report titled “Prospects for Exponential Growth”. The study provides a research based overview on the development of Islamic finance and the broader Islamic economy in Indonesia. The study also includes a retail consumer banking and insurance survey and exclusive interviews with leading stakeholders that highlights how Islamic finance growth will be driven by opportunities for Islamic banks to finance the development of expansion projects that tap into the real economy. It projects that the market share of Islamic banking could reach 11 percent by 2020, up from 5 percent in 2015. Indonesia’s vast natural resources, favourable demographics and strategic geographic location offers great potential for economic growth, and great opportunities for the Islamic finance industry. Recent plans made to ease restrictions on foreign investment in almost 50 economic sectors demonstrates the country’s willingness and commitment in fostering a business environment that is more attractive for new shariah compliant investments.
