After paddling from 29/04 till 4/05 in Valsesia, I have the following info regarding
river changes due to the heavy floods of last automn:

*) Sesia/Balmuccia gorge: the exit of the rapid above the Roman bridge seems to have
become larger and as a result, the rapid has become easier, the nasty drop at the
entrance of the gorge has disappeared (no more mystery moves!), the gorge itself has
not changed that much (the infran is still there) but has been partially filled up
with boulders

*) Sesia/lower stretch: Balmuccia rapid seems to have become more straightforward with
only one big stopper remaining on the left at the beginning, the terrible stopper in
the right handed bend of the river 3km above Varallo has disappeared (no more aerial
moves!)

*)Mastallone: the big stopper in the narrow gorge below Bocciolaro seems to have
disappeared (not there at low and medium level)

*) Upper-Sermenza: tree in drop after the trumpet fall

*) Lower-Sermenza below Boccioleto: no changes (land slide below first drop does not
affect navigability)

*) Sesserra from 2km above Piancone to Coggiola: no changes

Water levels were relatively low early in the week due to the low temperatures and
medium/high afterwards due to abundant rain. Still a lot of snow present to melt.

Bruno
