David "A different judging system than the typical NOWR one was used for all classes. The maximum score achievable (a.k.a. a perfect ride) was 100. Competitors earned up to 40 technical points (one and a third points for each 180 degree directional change), 40 variety points (5 points for each different move), 10 style points, and 10 difficulty points. There was no distinction between flat and vertical in the technical score and no flat variety moves counted like spins, clean spins, super clean spins, roundhouses, or shuvits. The system also awarded points to paddlers for just trying for the variety move rather than actually getting it, which resulted in many competitors hitting rides in the 90s. Scores were announced within 10 seconds of each ride so the spectators always knew who was in the lead. All in all the general idea of the system worked very well and the right winners were crowned. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
