Since I have set to KDE to remember my session, the next thing I did was to quit from Kontact application before logging off and on. This made it work properly! I suspect that since Kontact wants to use KWallet, and KWallet starts with a "pop-up" dialog to ask for the code, it makes the plasma collapse.
