I appreciate this insight. I made the wrong assumption based on my experience
using darkTable.

Apparently darkTable "cheats" by adding it to their xmp sidecar. And it seems
the first of the chosen color labels is recorded to XMP standards.

Just adding a morsel of insight here. I'm also now convinced to -1 this feature
request. And will adapt my labeling tact to fit the universal standards.
