Bug ID: 500914
Summary: Language hot switching
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version: master
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
SUMMARY
During a KDE Eco installation meetup, we detected it to be a problem for users
that language doesn't change automatically.
Most (if not all) distros launch a live Plasma system where to install the
system from. They will open an installer where one of the first questions is
the language. The user will choose the language and soon after they will be
asked to connect to the wifi.
We saw users both having to configure the wifi and thus having to interact with
the system in the original language of the distro (English in Fedora KDE) which
they might not be all that familiar with if they switched.
Furthermore, we saw users wanting to explore the system as it was installing,
in these cases it also would be necessary.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Find a person who doesn't understand any English
2. Have them try to install e.g. Fedora KDE
3. Selecting a different language. See that the installer language changes but
not the system
4. See them lost figuring out how to connect the wifi
OBSERVED RESULT

EXPECTED RESULT
