Event sounds should have a static slider that is always present. If this slider is not there, then something has likely changed in the code. If it is there but your event sound still appears and disappears super quickly then the application generating it is likely not tagging it properly as being an event sound and should be fixed. You should try and run "pacmd list-sink-inputs" while the sound is playing (might be hard to catch!) and you can inspect the proplist there to see what it's media.role property is.
