I've found that it also happens when turning off the second monitor *and* changing primary monitor resolution at the same time. In this case, I cannot press ' PrtScn' to open Spectacles. Not sure what exactly causes this, but it seems to occur often when I manually block sleep and screen locking (Power Management Applet) and leave the computer for ~8 hours.
