Bug ID: 508254
Summary: Show selected window: don't fade out other windows
completely / highlight differently
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.4.4
Reported In:
Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: tabbox

Target Milestone: ---
I work as-keyboard-as-possible; the Task Switcher alone does not work for me.
Any other representation of the open windows (spatial or abstract; list, grid,
icons, flips) causes too much friction and slows me down.
So I use with "Show selected window" checked. But I find it jarringly
disorienting that *all* other, non-selected windows disappear/fade out
completely. I have to "hunt" for the window I want to switch to, I have to
remember the 9+ windows I have open next to each other.
I would love if either all other, non-selected windows did not fade out
completely (e.g. only 50%) so their spatial layout remains intact; or that the
selected windows is highlighted in a different way -- e.g. a glowing border,
tint overlay, or "active" decorations. My XFCE desktop uses both a blue tint
over the selected window as well as a border that is on the top-most layer to
hint at (partially) covered windows.
I've started hacking around the code, but could not put enough time into it,
yet.
