IMO, there needs to be a complementary change in Klipper, to make things less
confusing, and to be able to handle use cases like yours, while still treating
the passwords securely.
Some password managers like KeePassXC also have other ways of getting user
passwords out besides copy-paste.
Worst case, you can temporarily unhide the password in KWalletManager, and type
it manually where needed. But this is certainly inconvenient and error-prone,
so it's only a last resort.

Just to confirm, if you copy from KWalletManager, you can still paste the
password in kate? If so, that would suggest that the password is actually
copied, but just isn't displayed in Klipper.

It is a very outdated front-end for KWallet. KWallet can also be accessed by
client apps through the old KWallet API and, more recently, through the Secret
Service API. These allow the client apps to store and retrieve their password
automatically, without user action.
