You can save your layout and then come back to it via Menu > View > Load Layout. I understand that this is not ideal, but the way the workspace layout is currently implemented means that even changing the width or the height of widgets is remembered only from session to session but not when switching between layouts. There is work ongoing to make the switching between layouts easier by redesigning that portion of the menu bar and implementing other enhancements under the hood. But I'm not sure whether your use case is amongst them.
