As soon as the option "organize windows in the grid view" is disabled, only windows of the currently selected desktop are visible. As a consequence, when a window is moved to another desktop, it just disappears. As soon as the other desktop is selected, the previously moved windows re-appear while the windows on the previous desktop disappear. I think that the non-grid-view overview is important. I tend to arrange windows fitting to my workflow on different desktops and find it very useful to maintain this structure when zooming out into overview.
