Bug ID: 509174
Summary: Discover should be able to update snapd packages which
are running, OR show a more helpful warning message.
Classification: Applications
Product: Discover
Version First 6.4.4
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: discover
Assignee: [email protected]

Target Milestone: ---
Created attachment 184756
--> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=184756&action=edit
mockup with (more) helpful information message about running apps.
SUMMARY: see $SUBJECT
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start eg. Thunderbird
2. Wait for a Thunderbird snap update to be available
3. Let Discover update it while Thunderbird is running
OBSERVED RESULT
There is an error message with a button "Show technical details". This button
then shows a message that "snap package has running apps".
EXPECTED RESULT
The snapd package should either be installed transparently in the background
even with running apps (snap is designed to be able to do this) or skipped
without error message. At worst, the update entry should be marked with a
warning message like attached. The important (UX) part is that it explains what
the user should DO, not (only) what the problem is.
The same applies to flatpak if this issue appears here as well.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS: KDE Neon with all updates applied as of yesterday.
