It seems disabling graphics acceleration in Chromium works around the issue.
Again, the issue does not occur with graphics acceleration on in GNOME.

The issue also doesn't occur if I force Chromium to launch in Xwayland
(--ozone-platform=x11), even with graphics acceleration on and apparently
working (according to chrome://gpu/).
