Bug ID: 511322
Summary: 'Show item information on hover' steals focus from
whatever is currently focused and raised when hovering
over a file
Classification: Applications
Product: dolphin
Version First unspecified
Reported In:
Platform: EndeavourOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: major
Priority: NOR
Component: view-engine: general

Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
'Show item information on hover' option in View>General>Miscellaneous steals
focus from anything else when hovering over a file. For example, if you click
on an .mp4 file and it opens mpv, great, mpv now has the focus and is raised
over Dolphin. However, when hovering over a file, mpv gets lowered to the
background beneath dolphin and loses focus entirely. This is NEW behavior, a
regression, and it worked flawlessly before KDE Plasma 6.5.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In System Settings under Window Behavior, ensure that 'Focus stealing
prevention' is set to low. This is the default for KDE Plasma, and I haven't
changed it even from the start of KDE Plasma 6.
2. Click on any file which opens a new window that is NOT maximized. I.E. Open
a .mp4 file with mpv and ensure Dolphin is still visible so you can hover over
a random file.
3. mpv opens and has focus and layers over dolphin, which is expected behavior.
4. Hover over a file.
5. mpv loses focus, and gets sent beneath dolphin to a point that the user must
reclick that window twice to raise it back to the front.
OBSERVED RESULT
Focus of other windows/applications is lost, and the window/application is
seemingly minimized, upon hovering over an item in dolphin.
EXPECTED RESULT
Focus of other windows should not be affected by dolphin item hovering, as it
used to be before 6.5.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: EndeavourOS with linux-cachyos kernel 6.17.5-1
KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.1 (but bug is also present in 6.5)
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.19.0
Qt Version: 6.10
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Changing 'Focus stealing prevention' to other options besides low does NOT
affect this bug. I have tried everything and nothing will make Dolphin stop
doing this. This bug is incredibly infuriating, because hovering can be by
complete accident as well.
