All my three current systems have good performance, and all of them are AMD64 systems. So I'll just keep the AppImage in a shared network location. I tried two more things, to find out what exactly is going wrong, and in how far this is Debian specific: I booted Kubuntu 25.10 from USB, and installed and started Digikam there (version 8.7.0) with my problematic digikamrc configuration.
