Target Milestone: 1.0
Subject: Plasma/Wayland: Desktop icons/launchers move to wrong screen after
session restart when using multiple monitors
Description:
I'm experiencing an issue with desktop icons and launchers not maintaining
their assigned screen position after restarting the session in KDE Plasma with
Wayland.
System Information:
OS: Fedora 43
Plasma Version: [Please include your exact Plasma version - can be found in
System Settings > About Plasma]
Graphics: [Your GPU model if known]
Session Type: Wayland
Monitors: Primary: LG HDR 4K, Secondary: Iiyama North America
Steps to Reproduce:
Set up two monitors with LG HDR 4K as primary display in System Settings >
Display
Place several desktop launchers/icons on the primary monitor (LG)
Log out and log back in OR restart the session
Observe desktop launchers position
Expected Behavior:
Desktop launchers should remain on the primary monitor (LG HDR 4K) where they
were placed, maintaining their positions after session restart.
Actual Behavior:
After session restart, the desktop launchers automatically move to the
secondary monitor (Iiyama) instead of staying on the primary monitor.
Additional Information:
I have confirmed the primary monitor is correctly set in System Settings >
Display
The issue occurs consistently with every session restart
I've tried the "Different desktops on each display" option in Display
Behavior, but the problem persists
This does NOT occur when using X11 session, only in Wayland
The monitors maintain their correct resolution and arrangement, only the
desktop icons are affected
Potential Workarounds Tried:
Setting different desktop for each display (didn't resolve the issue)
Manually moving icons back after each login (temporary fix)
This appears to be a Plasma/Wayland specific issue with desktop icon
persistence across sessions. The desktop session should remember and restore
icon positions based on the designated primary display.
