A very disappointing take by KDE team. The current behaviour completely breaks
HDR as HDR signal should come unmodified from source to output according to
spec. It's up to monitor to decide how to render the content, not KDE. KDE
should only take care about its own content it "produces" (ie GUI) and have a
slider to adjust "SDR" brightness. As well as second slider to control
backlight brightness through DDC/CI as it's done on Windows - there are two
sliders: one sends DDC/CI control signals to adjust backlight (which is up to
monitor how to interpret and which is in spec with HDR intent) and a second one
which adjusts brightness for non HDR content through tone mapping.

As it stands today, HDR in KDE is completely broken and unusable. Not only in
terms of consumption (watching movies, playing games), but also from production
perspective (mastering new content in Resolve, etc).
