However, as you pointed out, it only works when the cursor is over the main list... And it doesn't work at all inside the KDE Neon VM I created to check the latest version (due to VM reasons). I didn't realize either of these and arrived at the wrong conclusion. Even if the current behavior is intentional, though, I would still ask you to please reconsider. Personally I don't see why the back button *shouldn't* work in the side panes. If we look at e.g. Firefox, it works just about anywhere: not just in the page, but also in the address bar, the title bar, and yes, the bookmarks side pane (which would be the closest equivalent to Dolphin's Places).
