Bug ID: 513376
Summary: Peek at Desktop shortcut needs a momentary mode (hold
key combo).
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First unspecified
Reported In:
Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
When using Meta+D to Peek at Desktop, it acts as a toggle between "peek" mode
and show mode, requiring the user to activate the key combo twice when
selecting something on the desktop behind an open window in order to drag/drop
that selection onto the open window.
It would be helpful if the key combo were to act as a momentary switch: It
would "peek" while holding down the key combo, so the selection could be made;
Then when the keys are released, the window would be restored and the selection
can be dragged/dropped onto it.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have an open window wanting a file from the desktop that is hidden behind
the open window.
2. Press *and hold* the Meta+D key combo to see the desktop and try to select
the file.
OBSERVED RESULT
After a short Delay, you get a strobe effect as kwin quickly oscillates between
peek and show mode for the desktop [EPILEPSY WARNING!], making it impossible to
select the file.
EXPECTED RESULT
Meta+D could be held down while the file selection is being made and then
released to show the window again with the selection ready to drag/drop onto
the window.
To preserve the existing behavior the shortcut would continue to act as a
toggle if released within the key repeat delay timer set up in settings > input
devices > keyboard > hardware > delay:
However if held past that Delay time the behavior would change to momentary and
continue to show the "peek" rather than oscillate back and forth between peek
and show.
