I should probably also point out that the wildcard workaround does not work for
GPU's; 

I have a single-GPU system and for some reason it's a lottery which number
system monitor will give to the GPU; it can be either 0, 1 or 2. Either way I
need to set the sensors on every reboot.

Even for lm-sensors, I am still using the sed script workaroudn instead of the
wildcards. I just noticed wetting a wildcard is unreliable (perhaps I was not
setting it correctly / in wrong places / it just doesn't work). Either way the
user should not need to edit the configuration files by hand.
