Bug ID: 514352
Summary: KMail isn’t fetching new messages
Classification: Applications
Product: kmail2
Version First 6.3.3
Reported In:
Platform: Debian stable
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
For about three days now, KMail hasn’t been fetching new messages. This was
also problematic earlier, but to a lesser degree.
OBSERVATIONS
When I click ‘Check Mail’, nothing happens. When I right-click my inbox and
click ‘Update This Folder and All Its Subfolders’, nothing happens. My
receiving account has the option ‘Enable interval mail checking’ enabled and
the interval set to 60 minutes, but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. The
status bar only ever says ‘Ready’.
Earlier, I had a workaround. Whenever I’d click ‘Check Mail’ and not receive
any new messages, I would go to the receiving Account settings and change the
Mail Checking Options; the account status would change from ‘Ready’ to actually
checking for new messages. But when I try doing that now, the account status
changes from ‘Ready’ to ‘Connection established’ and remains there; new
messages are not fetched.
The main window’s status bar (which I sort of rely on to tell me if the program
is trying to do something) only ever says ‘Ready’; sometimes it might flash for
a split second, which is not nearly enough for me to see what happened. There’s
no indication of anything going wrong, either; the only way to know if I’ve got
any new messages is to check my inbox with a different client.
EXPECTATIONS
KMail should respond to my request to fetch messages by trying to fetch
messages and informing me it’s trying to fetch messages. Ideally, it should
succeed at this task, or at least let me know it couldn’t.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Debian GNU/Linux 13 (Trixie)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.6
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
• I use other Kontact components, which all seem functional. Kontact sometimes
crashes, but it doesn’t seem related.
• I can see new messages just fine using webmail and other clients. I haven’t
had any trouble connecting to my account with KMail; it just seems to have
gotten stuck in some kind of inactive limbo.
• I haven’t tried logging out and back in, or restarting my computer in this
three-day period. While I suspect this might help KMail recover, I want to
preserve the state for a while in case I can pull any useful information out
this way. The computer did go into sleep mode in the meantime.
