Window shading is the kind of feature one expect on a GNU/Linux desktop, not
having it is plainly unacceptable and a reason to leave KDE and if necessary
Wayland in favour of whatever actually have advanced Window Management features
(on X11?). Many existing users have used such features for decades. For new
users, this feature might not be important, but it belongs to a group of Window
Management and workflow features that in the long run will clearly show new
users that the GNU/Linux desktop is far superior to the Windows counterpart and
exactly how people can be more productive when working on a computer GUI.
Just FYI, a few similar features that makes all the difference and set apart
among others KDE from Windows UI.

Single click
Window focus (follows mouse++others rather than click behaviour)
More than one desktop (virtual desktops or activities) <-- similar to shading,
also existed/been the norms for decades
Customizable window decorations (not one-size-fits-all ex. "huge ugly" style)
Window transparency

These are just the most obvious. But there are probably hundreds of
customization features in KDE that makes life better in various ways for many
people, and increase workflows and productivity on the desktop.
