--- Comment #10 from Matt Mayfield <[email protected]> ---
I agree with the original bug poster; I have a very strong preference for the
Meta-Left and Meta-Right shortcuts, and the four quarter-screen tiling
shortcuts, simply being "position and resize the window so that it takes up the
left/right half of the screen" but with NO other side effects like we currently
see, i.e.:

- making the window take on a special status of "tiled", or
- having a resize of the window *permanently* change the grid ALL future
windows are snapped to, or
- windows popping around to unpredictable locations when moving them to
different virtual desktops.

I personally preferred the pre-5.27 behavior.

So for Nate Graham's comment 2024-12-12 20:17:06 UTC, I'd take option 3, with
the caveat that while un-tiling the window, it remains with (except the side
being resized) *exactly* the same position and size as when it was tiled.

I wonder if it would achieve my desired result to create KWin scripts to take
over all the tiling shortcuts with new actions that simply move and resize
windows to screen halves/quarters, but without actually setting their tiled
status... 🤔
