I've been looking into this bug. Yes, only the relative symbolic link is being
moved, which then no longer points to the image.

If I do the same thing with Dolphin, I get the same result as with digiKam.

Does Nautilus really handle this differently?

As a user, I would never expect the hidden directory to be copied/moved; this
contradicts the basic idea of ​​symbolic links.

The only option would be to automatically convert relative symbolic links to
absolute ones. But is such file manipulation in the spirit of an image manager
or file manager?

As long as Dolphin behaves the same way, we won't change the behavior in
digiKam. I'm closing this bug report.
