Bug ID: 516468
Summary: [Feature Request] Option to disable automatic folder
opening/focus after archive creation via context menu
Classification: Applications
Product: ark
Version First unspecified
Reported In:
Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
Description:
In KDE Plasma 6.6.0 (Fedora 43), when a user creates an archive using the
Dolphin context menu (Compress -> Compress to...), Ark automatically opens the
destination folder or changes the focus to it once the process is complete.
While this might be helpful for some, it disrupts the workflow of users
performing batch operations or those who prefer to remain in the source
directory without UI interference.
Current Behavior:
Right-click a file/folder in Dolphin.
Select "Compress" -> "Compress to...".
Ark creates the archive and immediately opens a new window or shifts
Dolphin's focus to the destination.
Requested Behavior:
Add a configuration toggle in Ark’s settings (or within the Service Menu
configuration) to "Disable opening destination folder after compression."
Rationale:
Workflow efficiency: Prevents unnecessary window management.
Consistency: Many CLI tools and advanced archivers allow silent background
operation.
User Control: Adheres to the KDE philosophy of providing granular options
for power users.
Additional Information:
Operating System: Fedora 43
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.0
Thanks for your time.
