Bug ID: 516519
Summary: Thumbdrive of KDE-Linux does not show up in BIOS as
boot option on Dell XPS 15 9560
Classification: I don't know
Product: kde
Version First unspecified
Reported In:
Platform: KDE Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]

Target Milestone: ---
I created a thumbdrive of KDE-Linux using a virtualbox version of the latest
version of KDE-Linux running on Windows 11 Pro using USB pass-through. I used
a 64GB Samsung thumbdrive. I used KDE Image writer from Flathub. I used the
raw image from 2026-02-22 03:18. It showed that it created the drive. But
when I rebooted my Dell XPS 15 9560 it does not show the thumbdrive as a boot
option. The internal hard drive which is an NVME and the Windows boot manger
are the only options shown. A live thumbdrive of Kubuntu 25.10 works just fine
on this laptop. But for whatever reason I can not get KDE-Linux to be
recognized as a boot option on my laptop.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create thumbdrive of KDE-Linux in VirtualBox with KDE-Linux running on
Windows 11 Pro using KDE Image Writer
2. Mount thumbdrive in KDE-Linux in KDE-Linux in VirtualBox running in Windows
11 Pro to verify that drive looks good
3. reboot laptop to boot menu to find that thumbdrive is missing from boot menu
OBSERVED RESULT
thumbdrive is missing from boot menu.
EXPECTED RESULT
It should be listed a Samsung drive as a boot option.
