Bug ID: 517210
Summary: krfb does not keep user specified attended access
password
Classification: Applications
Product: krfb
Version First 25.04.2
Reported In:
Platform: Debian stable
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: major
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
The "--nodialog" option does not work with KDE's Autostart, so krfb *always*
opens a dialog window when KDE starts up. It auto-generates a random password
for attended access. I specified a password for attended access and for
unattended access. The one for unattended access remained, but whenever I
restart KDE, the krfb dialog comes up, a new attended access password has been
generated and my specified password has been overwritten.
I rate this as "major" because it makes it impossible to access this system
remotely through krfb. I can use ssh and kill krfb, but I can't restart it
unless I run it from within the terminal in KDE. I can't access KDE, because I
can't use krfb. Unless I have someone at the remote system when it boots, who
can change the password or close the krfb window, or tell me the new password,
it makes krfb useless.
I was finally able to stop this by manually editing the rc file. I just deleted
the line and readded it and suddenly it worked.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set krfb attended access pw (and unattended pw)
2. Reboot and let KDE start.
OBSERVED RESULT
The attended access password overwrites my pw.
EXPECTED RESULT
Keep user specified pw.
