SUMMARY

laptop with an external monitor,
when login,
sometimes the external monitor can't light up (especially the 1st time),
other times the it can light up,
btw the built-in monitor can always light up.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. press the power button on laptop
2. when login, the external monitor can't light up (almost 100% for the 1st
time)
3. reboot, it has a chance light up

OBSERVED RESULT

the external monitor can't light up on login screen

EXPECTED RESULT

the external monitor should light up on login screen

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If make the monitor hot (press a button on the monitor, the indicator led on
the monitor lights up) before the login screen shows, it have a big chance to
light up successfully.
BTW, it also happens on Microsoft Windows.
