Bug ID: 517331
Summary: Split View loses pane focus: actions apply to the
wrong pane and context menu stops appearing
Classification: Applications
Product: dolphin
Version First 25.12.3
Reported In:
Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: split view

Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
Split View loses correct active pane: navigation and file operations affect the
wrong pane, context menu stops appearing
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin.
2. Enable Split View (F3).
3. Use Dolphin normally for some time (navigation, file operations, switching
between panes).
OBSERVED RESULT
After some time the panes start behaving inconsistently.
Actions sometimes apply to the opposite pane instead of the active one. The
behavior appears to alternate:
- With the left pane active, pressing "Up" navigates the right pane.
- Pressing it again navigates the left pane.
The same alternating behavior happens with the Back and Forward navigation
buttons.
File operations are also affected:
- Selecting a file in the left pane and pressing Delete may delete a file in
the right pane (and vice versa).
- Keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl+C / Ctrl+X / Ctrl+V may operate on the wrong
pane.
Another symptom that consistently appears once the issue occurs is that the
context menu stops appearing when right-clicking on files.
EXPECTED RESULT
All navigation and file operations should consistently apply to the currently
active pane.
The context menu should always appear when right-clicking.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: N/A
macOS: N/A
Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.23.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The issue appears only after some time of usage; immediately after enabling
Split View everything works correctly.
I have observed this behavior for several Dolphin versions, so it is likely a
regression. I have been using Split View heavily for many years and did not
encounter this problem in older versions.
Kernel Version: 6.18.16-1-lts
