Bug ID: 517924
Summary: Wishlist: Add support for scanning QR codes from
screenshots or local image files
Classification: Applications
Product: Keysmith
Version First 25.12.3
Reported In:
Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: General
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
Currently, Keysmith only supports scanning QR codes via the camera. For users
who save their OTP QR codes as screenshots or local image files (especially on
KDE Plasma), it would be much more convenient to be able to select and scan
these images directly, instead of having to hold up the screen to a physical
camera.
It would be great to add:
1. An option to "Scan from image file" in the add account dialog, allowing
users to pick a local image (PNG/JPG) containing the QR code.
2. Or, support for pasting a QR code from the clipboard (e.g., after taking a
screenshot with Spectacle).
This would improve usability significantly for desktop users who manage their
OTP secrets digitally.
