Bug ID: 518378
Summary: Plasma Browser Integration makes Google Voice web
audio interfere with calls
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasma-browser-integration
Version First unspecified
Reported In:
Platform: EndeavourOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Chrome
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
When dialing out or receiving a call (both), having the Plasma Browser
Integration extension action causes secondary audio playback to continue
playing interminably, even while having an active phone conversation.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install the Plasma Browser extension (I have tested in Chrome, Chromium, and
Vivaldi)
2. Use the Google Voice web UI (voice.google.com)
3. Either dial our or wait for a call in, which rings your browser.
4. If dialing out, Google Voice web will play an "outbound ringing" sound
effect (to indicate that the remote phone is ringing) that will not stop when
the other end picks up. It will continue ringing during your conversation. If
dialing in, your own browser will "ring" to alert you, and even if you connect
the call, you will hear the person's voice plus the ringing sound effect.
OBSERVED RESULT
Audio file sound effects continue playing once triggered, and never stop until
the tab is reloaded, interfering with telephony.
EXPECTED RESULT
Audio files stop when connection occurs or the caller hangs up without you
answering.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: EndeavourOS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.23.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2
Kernel Version: 6.18.13-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I suspect this has to do with media playback attempting to "be smart" and
pause/unpause audio when interrupted, but I am not sure. While debugging, I
found that if I have KDE Connect on my phone, my phone recognizes my KDE
computer as "Playing" some media during my call. I took a risk and paused it,
and the ringing sound effect actually stopped, and did not interrupt my
telephone call which was good.
