My work involves creating long-form video tutorials and online courses on
various computer software programs. I typically record the audio and video
screencasts in separate sessions. Then, I combine them in video editors.
In order to sync the video and audio, I need to perform a lot of cutting and
"freeze-framing." In one project, I can have dozens, or even more than a
hundred, freeze-frame clips. Basically, I need to place the playhead at a
specific frame, convert that frame into a freeze-framed clip, and then
automatically ripple-insert it at the playhead location.
In Premiere and Shotcut, I can simply move the playhead, right-click, and
select "Freeze Frame." In Blender, I can press Shift+K. In CapCut, there is a
dedicated button that instantly generates a freeze frame clip.
Yes, Kdenlive can create freeze frames using either the Time Remap effect or
Extract Frame to Project. However, the former takes too many steps, and the
latter uses too much storage space. I hope Kdenlive has a one-click solution
like the other editors because it would greatly help people like me who create
video tutorials or e-learning content.
